Another high-flier soared at Sotheby’s, as the auction house conducted the fine and decorative arts portion of its sale of the collection of the Mr and Mrs John Hay Whitney Collection on Wednesday, May 18.
With a wingspan of 5 feet 11 inches and measuring 40 inches high, a fine molded and gilded zinc American eagle, dated 1893, flew to $243,200, although it had been estimated at just $7/9,000.
