BLOOMFIELD, N.J. — Nye & Company’s September 10 auction, comprised entirely of unreserved Property Descended in and Collected by the De Wolfe, Hereshoff and Brown Families, was led at an all-inclusive $21,250 by the John Brown Federal inlaid and figured mahogany Pembroke table, made in Rhode Island circa 1805, that had a long history of descent in the Brown and Herreshoff families. The table had been published twice by Wendy Cooper, once in her 1971 master’s thesis titled “The Furniture and Furnishings of John Brown, Merchant of Providence, 1736-1803” and again in the April 1973 issue of The Magazine Antiques. Andrew Holter confirmed a new private Mid-Atlantic states buyer had the top bid in the 411-lot sale that was 100 percent sold. A more extensive review of this sale will appear in an upcoming issue.
