“You’ll love it at Lasdon,” promised show promoter Vivien Cord in regard to her one-day outdoor Memorial Day market at Lasdon Park, Arboretum and Veterans Memorial. And, it was a promise the promoter kept as a host of dealers presented interesting and captivating displays of antiques, couture, fine art and collectibles.
Cord reported just under 1,700 people making their way to the market, a benefit for The Glass House Fund at Lasdon, and she also reported good sales made by virtually all of the dealers from the start of the show right up until closing.
The market occupies the gently sloping lawn at the front of the park situated on well-traveled Route 35. It was a blue-bird day and that brought out a long line of shoppers awaiting the opening, and sales began to be made right off the bat.
The Freemans, Blue Shutters Antiques, Montgomery, N.Y., reported a sale of a large piece of French enamelware (their specialty) for $900 to the first person who walked in their booth. Buying continued throughout the day, with several late afternoon transactions reported.
“There were many last-minute sales,” stated Cord, “which, as I remind dealers, is a good reason to not pack early. A couple of dealers who had not made booth rent at 3 pm left happy with the day’s sales, in particular, French Vanilla from Denver, Penn., and Brookfield, Conn., dealer Andrij Roman.”
Cord also reported “garden furniture and paintings” as “hot ticket items.”
