MILFORD, MASS. — Coyle’s Auction will conduct a two-session estates auction on March 18 featuring an eclectic selection with an antique rug collection, antique American, English and French style furniture, porcelain and pottery, bronzes, sterling silver, fine art, jewelry and more. The items have been drawn from several Boston area homes and estates with selected additions. This will be the third auction in the new venue, the Regency Ballroom at the Double Tree Inn, which has been well received by the audience for its spacious hall, easier loading and unloading and easy access from the highway.
Session one at 2:30 pm will bring the John G. Clift (1949-2024) collection of rugs to auction. Clift was an avid student of Oriental rugs. Soft-spoken and always polite, he was very active in the New England Rug Society. He was a longtime resident of Savin Hill in Dorchester, Mass. Clift’s professional life was in the field of facilities management, and from 1996-2004, he played a crucial role during the restoration and expansion of H.H. Richardson’s national historic landmark, Trinity Church. During his four trips to Turkey, Clift collected a significant group of Turkish kilims. The collection numbers approximately 40 rugs and fragments.
Session two at 5 pm will feature a French Empire-style marble large shelf clock with ornate ormolu and painted porcelain face signed Tiffany and Co., New York/France, heavily carved cassone signed Davenport, Boston with elaborate winged griffins, birds and carved shields; Scottish tall clock with hand painted dial with Four Seasons motif; “Lifetime Furniture” oak Mission even arm settle; American and English antique furniture; antique card tables; barrister bookcase and more. Accessories gathered from Boston area homes to include porcelain and pottery, Asian, bronze and marble sculptures, clocks and much more. Jewelry includes 14K gold pieces featuring a sapphire and pearl necklace, sapphire and diamond bracelet, 18K gold multistrand bracelet, diamond earrings and other jewelry. Sterling silver lots include flatware set etc. Fine art will include a Woody Jackson New York Harbor oil painting, three oil on canvas paintings by George Marks, including view of Sudbury River, etc. portrait of girl signed Olga Dormandi, several European and American paintings, prints and more.
