LARCHMONT, N.Y. — Just in case you were still shopping around for that perfect gift for your significant other or loved ones, Clarke Auction Gallery had you covered with its 460-lot Valentine Estate Auction, conducted on February 8. Doubling as a celebration of Black artists during Black History Month, artworks by Vincent Smith and Emma Amos were highlighted. The sale was led by “Forest Frolicking,” an oil on canvas by Howard Chandler Christy (American, 1872-1952). Signed and dated lower left, the circa 1920s work had provenance to a New York City estate and sold within estimate for $32,500, including buyer’s premium ($30/50,000). Additional highlights from this sale will be featured in an upcoming issue.
