An Eighteenth or Nineteenth Century Chinese eight-panel screen was the high lot at Skinner’s Asian works of art sale on April 29 when it sold for $226,000 against the $800-$1,200 estimate. The screen was among a group of lots deaccessioned by the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, to benefit the acquisitions funds. Its rosewood frame had archaic carvings and one side displayed a textile collage of birds and flowers, while the other side had soapstone carvings of the Immortals. The screen sold to a Hong Kong dealer who had previewed it but who was not in the salesroom during the sale. The price includes the buyer’s premium of 17 1/2 percent of the first $80,000 of the purchase price and ten percent thereafter. A complete review of this sale will appear in a future issue.
