LITCHFIELD, CONN. — A carved and painted wood and composition circular plaque featuring Asian figures in a landscape amid pagodas turned out to be a sleeper in Litchfield County Auctions’ July 20 sale as it took $78,000 above a $150 high estimate. The piece measured 37 inches diameter and came from a Washington, Conn., collector’s estate. The plaque, with white figures and animals standing on natural wood landmasses on top of a blue-painted sea and sky, gained considerable attention across four phone bidders and four online platforms to finish with 50 bids. It sold to a phone bidder. For more information, www.litchfieldcountyauctions.com or 860-567-4661.
