Avid fans of Adirondack material will long remember the days when there were antiques shows at the Adirondack Museum in Blue Mountain Lake and another at Indian Lake, with lots of vendors set up near both sites, making it difficult for cars to travel the roads. Those days are now gone, finished when the museum moved its show into summer, the first part of August, and Indian Lake had little luck keeping its show alive at the regular fall date.
Indian Lake, however, tried to bring the fall date back to life this year, announcing an Adirondack Mountains Antiques Weekend with antiques tailgaters spread out all over town on September 14‱8, a concert on the evening of September 17 and an antiques show running from September 16 through 18.
Vonnie Liddle, who works with the Adirondack Arts Organization and helped co-ordinate the weekend events, said, “We had a total of about 40 dealers, but only four showed up to exhibit on the grounds of the school.” Jon Magoun of South Paris, Maine, was in his usual spot in Indian Lake and had nine dealers sharing the lot he rents for the week.
“Instead of doing the Adirondack Show in Blue Mountain this past August, we rented this spot in Indian Lake, had other dealers join us, and did very well,” Jon said.
“Now that we have planted the seed for the fall show, we are going forward and build on this year,” Vonnie said. She noted that the concert did not take place, but “dealers seemed happy and plan to come back next fall.”
A sampling of the activities at Indian Lake is shown here, with more expected in 2012.
