ASHEVILLE, N.C. — Brunk Auctions presented a 505-lot Emporium Auction on Thursday, September 14, followed by a two day Premier Auction September 15-16 that saw an additional 814 lots cross the block. At the end of the three-day event, the house tallied an overall total of more than $2.9 million.

MONROVIA, CALIF. — John Moran Auctioneers’ Art of the American West sale featured 495 lots of Puebloan pottery, historical and contemporary Indigenous North American art and design, Navajo textiles, baskets, jewelry and Western art on September 12. MADISON, CONN. — Madison Green once again became a nexus for antiques, vintage merchandise and artisan crafts on September 16 as the newly revamped Vintage, Antiques, Art and Made in CT show got underway at 9 am. The one-day show comes on the heels of Brimfield week, and the truism about New England weather was palpable.

There were high times, high spirits and high prices at auction this past week. Sloans & Kenyon sold a Nineteenth Century absinthe advertising poster and Auction Team Breker wound up a Pianophon music box, made in Leipzig near the end of that century. Hand-colored engravings showing fruit of the twelve seasons came from South Bay Auctions and a banquet by Pedro Friedeberg was set at Capsule. Read on for more winning lots.

ALAMEDA, CALIF. — Michaan’s September 15 gallery auction was led by a US stamp collection in a Scott album, which sold for $8,610. Stamp enthusiasts are notoriously fussy collectors so this album containing mostly mint, never hinged examples, including some from the Nineteenth Century, proved desirable.

BRIDPORT, VT. — A sale of about 450 lots from the collection of the late New Haven, Vt., carpenter Ralph Farnsworth brought Tom Broughton out of retirement on Sunday, September 17.

MELBOURNE, FLA. — Mathesons’ Gallery’s Fresh Estates Auction took place on September 17 with more than 275 lots. In addition to selections from a major collection of works by Maxfield Parrish (American, 1870-1966), the catalog included a large collection of Chinese, Tibetan and Korean items from a private collector in Melbourne, Fla.

BLOOMFIELD, N.J. — Nye & Co welcomed September with nearly 1,000 lots offered in its Estate Treasures Auction, September 13-15; by the time the final gavel fell, the house had sold a combined total of approximately $780,000. The sale marked almost exactly 20 years since John Nye opened his own auction house, following a tenure at Sotheby’s in New York City that concluded with him helping oversee the Americana department.
