On Saturday, October 27, Pook & Pook sold 413 lots from the collection of Mr and Mrs Paul Flack, a selection of Pennsylvania material that went for a total of $1,252,545, including the buyer’s premium.
The highlight of the sale was a painted pine dresser box, dated 1845, by Jonas Weber, Lancaster County, Penn., that went to dealer Philip Bradley for $159,975, including premium, against a presale estimate of $20/25,000. The lift lid and sides were decorated with leaves and fruit, and the front with a farm house flanked by trees above the name Jonas Weber, all on a dark blue ground. It retains the original wire hinges and tin hasp, and measures 5¾ inches high, 10 inches wide and 5¾ inches deep. This is the only known example signed by Jonas Weber.
There were three other Weber boxes in the sale, selling for a low of $4,740 and a high of $23,700.
A complete review of the sale will be in a forthcoming issue of Antiques and The Arts Weekly.
