PROVINCETOWN, MASS. – Driskel Vintage Photography at the Schoolhouse Center for Art and Design, 494 Commercial Street, is having an exhibition of photographs of the John F. Kennedys by their friend and personal photographer Mark Shaw. Most of these pictures appear in the recently revised The John F. Kennedys (Rizzoli), and were considered by Shaw to be his finest work.
These vintage prints by the famed photographer, who contributed 27 covers for Life magazine and over 100 stories, show an extraordinarily candid and warm glimpse into the most famous family in recent American history. Many of the images were taken on Cape Cod including the ill-fated President’s favorite photograph of himself, walking away into the dunes, a small man in a sweeping landscape. Photographs of young Caroline and John F. Kennedy Jr. with their parents from such capable hands as Shaw’s do not fail to take command emotionally, just as they did when they were first seen.
The show opens Friday, September 7 from 7 to 10 pm and runs through September 20.
