Sandra Lee Axtell, 73, wife of Richard “Smitty” Axtell, died unexpectedly Friday, October 14, at Wilson Medical Center in Johnson City, N.Y. She is survived by her husband of 15 years, as well as several cousins.
Sandra was a life member of the Deposit Historical Society, serving as its treasurer, and was also a member of the Deposit First United Methodist Church. Sandy was well known in the world of antiques, traveling to shows around the country to assist her husband in his business. Most recently she was at the ADA/Historic Deerfield Antiques Show on October 9‱0.
“Sandy and I did everything together, we were like a single person, and she was a great asset to my antiques business,” Smitty said.
A memorial service was conducted Monday, October 17, at the Deposit First United Methodist Church, 107 2nd Street, with the Rev Dr Keith Benjamin officiating. Donations in Sandy’s name may be made to the Deposit Historical Society or to the Deposit First United Methodist Church and sent c/o Richard S. Axtell, 20 Main Street, Deposit NY 13754.
