Crowds filled the Big Red Barn in this tiny village half way between Houston and Austin for the Friday and Saturday show, January 18‱9. With more than 120 exhibitors the event center was filled to its winter capacity with antiques from Texas, New England, Europe and more. There were also collections of art, folk art and even many of the later trends in home décor and style.
Susan Franks, show manager and owner, said, “The change this year from Saturday and Sunday to the Friday and Saturday format seems to have been a good boost in attendance, and sales were great!” She said the dealers were shipping furniture and selling small pieces in good quantity for the two day event.
The Vernons from nearby Brenham, Texas, sold several pieces of furniture; blue transferware was moving well from several dealers and silver, art and jewelry found new owners.
Status Symbol Antiques, Lynchburg, Va., came with a large collection of Georgian Era furniture and decorating accessories. Woo Woo Antiques from Dallas was selling from their inventory of French and American copper kitchenware.
A New England room from the Seventeenth Century was the exhibit from Chappell Hill, Texas dealer Patti Walsh, while Easter Hill Antiques, Sharon, Conn., was showing a similar room from the Eighteenth Century. Another New England dealer, Fionda Antiques, New Ipswich, N.H., was showing a collection of American and Continental antiques.
Coming from Ohio, Atticturnovers, LLC was showing a collection of repurposed and vintage furnishings. The center of their exhibit featured a maple topped workbench with a finished base, to be used in the home as a work station and storage.
This show was begun by Franks after Susan and her husband Bo purchased the property, which included the famous Original Round Top Antiques Fair each April and October. Now for the fifth year, the show is a very popular venue for dealers and shoppers alike, a break in the winter to find some additions to their homes and collections. The big show will have about 300 exhibitors in The Big Red Barn, The Continental Tent and The Big Red Barn Tent at the Round Top site and also more antiques in Carmine at the Dance Hall.
