Margolis Chapin design Highboy/ High Chest, Connecticut, c. 1930, cherry, bonnet top reproduction of the 18th C. Eliphalet Chapin highboy at the Wadsworth Atheneum which was exhibited at the Atheneum in 1967 and illustrated in the catalog “Connecticut Furniture, Seventeenth and Eighteenth Centuries” No. 93, also illustrated in Kugelman “Connecticut valley Furniture” No. 63, pediment with molded broken arch ending with carved caliculus scrolls, diamond pierced lattice centering a cartouche finial, upper case with three small over four long graduated drawers, quarter columns, lower case with one long over three small drawers, quarter columns, both central small drawers with applied carved scrolling leafage, apron with typical Chapin cyma shaping, cabriole legs ending in ball and claw feet, an additional turned central finial and family papers are available, two Margolis burn signatures present, one to the inner upper case right of the second from bottom drawer, and one to the inner lower case right of the top drawer, wear consistent with age and use including minor fading of surface, one extra center finial to interchange with Chapin style due to ceiling height, 81" h. x 39 1/2" w. x 19 1/2" d.
