Clemens / Mark Twain’ in vol.I (the ‘Innocents Abroad’ volume): this volume with an additional 1p. signed autograph note from Twain bound immediately after the limitation leaf; ‘The Gilded Age’ volume with 2 leaves bound in (a page of autograph manuscript from ‘Twain’ [verso blank] and a similar page from his co-author Dudley Warner [verso blank]) together with a 3pp. letter from Dudley Warner, dated “Hartford Nov 26 ‘78”, to concerning the unidentified recipient’s public talks, engraved series title in each volume, photogravure and etched plates. Brown half morocco, spines lettered and tooled in gilt. The manuscript material in the ‘Gilded Age’ volume is usual, the note in ‘Innocents Abroad’ is not.
