Nineteenth Century Carved and Gilt Walnut Mirror- Price Upon Request
In celebration of the Emancipation Proclamation, January 1, 1863, a carved and gilt walnut frame, maker unknown, about 1875, measures 25 3/4" high and 22 1/2" wide. Within the reticulated serpentine crest: A carved and gilded laurel wreath over a carved quill and unrolled scroll bears the carved date January 1, 1863. Flanked on each side by a chain of gilded, oval links, which are ingeniously secured around the frame itself and significantly broken apart, presumably by the force of the Emancipation Proclamation on which the open links rest. Carved, reticulated, serpentine sides, the base enclosing the American Shield with 13 stars flanked by the display of American flags. This frame does almost everything except sing "We Shall Overcome." Stephen Score Boston, MA 617-227-9192 www.stephenscore.com/ stephen.score@verizon.net
