NEW WINDSOR, N.Y. — The two lots that topped Mid-Hudson Auction Galleries’ October 28 could not have been more dissimilar. A complete graded set of 1941 baseball cards that included Ted Williams, Dickey, Grove, Hubbell, Mel Ott, the rookie card of P.W. Reese, as well as the only trading card production to feature all three DiMaggio brothers: Joe, Vince and Dom. The set sold at the high estimate, for $15,000. It came out a nose ahead of the $14,640 realized about 60 lots later for “Winter Evening,” a gilt-framed oil on canvas composition by Fern Isabel Kuns Coppedge (1883-1951). The approximately 450-lot sale featured works from the estate of Woodstock artist and photographer, Harriet Tannin (1929-2009). Prices quoted include the buyer’s premium as reported by the auction house. A forthcoming issue will explore more highlights from this sale.
