PORTSMOUTH, N.H. – Northeast’s marathon, three-day sale May 18 to 20 provided an occasion for remembering some old friends in the trade.
After beginning on Friday night with 400 lots of American ceramics and Currier & Ives prints, auctioneer Ron Bourgeault continued on Saturday with the inventory of the late Fred Johnston, a well-known dealer from Kingston, N.Y.
A highlight of this American collection was a Massachusetts Pilgrim Century ladder back chair (lot 533), which sold to a seated bidder for $26,000 plus premium. Sunday’s sales featured property from two concerns, English Manor Antiques and The Virginians. Their personal collections yielded (lot 1079) an English ormolu-mounted rosewood cabinet, $29,000 plus premium.
