John F. Marr Jr, 87, widower of Elizabeth (Bukowski) Marr, died on December 23, at Bristol Hospital. An avid postcard collector and antiques dealer, his favorite pastimes were going to auctions and following the stock market, and he loved the Boston Red Sox and Patriots.
John was born in Revere, Mass., on October 4, 1924, and was a son of Marie (Kelly) Marr and John F. Marr Sr and. He formerly lived in Cheshire where he taught math at Cheshire Academy and met his future wife, Betty. They moved to Bristol in 1963 where he taught at Laurel Crest Academy. He then served as a counselor and director of the guidance department at St Paul Catholic High School for several years before retiring in 1989.
His greatest joy was spending time with his family and friends. He was a recipient of the Circle of Honor award from St Paul Catholic High School in 2009 and was a member of St Gregory Church, Bristol. John leaves two daughters and sons-in-law, Elizabeth and Jeffrey P. Twombly of Bristol and Ramona and Paul Kawolis of Sutton, Mass.; and a son, John F. Marr III of Bristol.
Funeral services were conducted on December 29 at Funk Funeral Home. Burial was in St John Cemetery, Wallingford. Memorial donations may be made to St Paul Catholic High School Scholarship Fund, 1001 Stafford Avenue, Bristol CT 06010. There is a memorial website for John at www.FunkFuneralHome.com .
