Rare Federal window seat, mahogany, beech (American beech by microanalysis), may have been one of a pair for underneath two large Palladian windows. Having a bowed front seat framed, the bench is supported by finely turned and carved reeded legs. It measures 17½ inches high by 57 inches wide by 19 inches deep, American, probably New England, circa 1800–15. It is in excellent condition, has old varnish finish and seat frame and blocking all original.
