A pair of table lamps from the Queen’s Bedroom of the JFK White House
Provenance: From J.B. West, White House Chief Usher from 1957-1969, to Maj. John Horner of the White House Military Office. Thence by descent. These lamps were pictured in a photo of the Queen’s Bedroom (aka Rose Room) in the January 1961 issue of National Geographic magazine (page 29).
Also in this auction is a tilt-top table made out of 18th century timber from the President’s House. Built by the White House Carpenter Shop in 1969 for West’s retirement, its top is signed by dozens of staff members, including presidents and first ladies. Quite possibly the largest piece ever offered for sale made from wood from the original White House.
These are two of the historic White House treasures in the auction, along with Mamie Eisenhower’s bedside table, pieces of White House china, a “Presidents House” sterling spoon and other items, all with excellent provenance.
The 400-lot auction begins at 12 Noon ET, Saturday, October 11. Preview Friday, October 10,10am-5pm or by appointment.
