Farm stands across New England are beginning to show the results of early spring plantings. Here at home, our winter travels collecting books across New England and the mid Atlantic states are ready too for sale. Here’s a small sampling.
Like Fiction? How about a first edition in blue cloth of Mark Twain’s masterpiece “Adventures of Huckleberry Finn,” with the necessary issue points. We also have signed 1st editions by Caldwell of “Kneel to the Rising Sun,” by LeCarre “The Russia House” and “The Secret Pilgrim.” Unsigned 1st editions include: Hemingway “A Farewell to Arms” and in Scribner’s Magazine “The Killers,” by Shirley Jackson “The Hangsaman,” and by Jack Kerouac “The Dharma.”
For history enthusiasts we have signed volumes by Shelby Foote “The Civil War: A Narrative,” by Paul Tibbets “The Flight of the Enola Gay,” by General Curtiss E. LeMay “America is in Danger,” and by Eddie Rickenbacker “Rickenbacker: An Autobiography.”
For lovers of art and poetry consider by Edna Vincent Millay a signed 1st edition in dustjacket of “Fatal Interview,” with a gift card from her Harper’s editor to Kenneth Enes who brought Edna to that publishing house. Then there is Lombardo’s “Chaim Gross, Sculptor,” with a full-page drawing by Gross and by Anne Morrow Lindbergh a signed copy of “Hour of Gold, Hour of Lead.”
Lastly, from Thomas Hardy’s autograph in a copy of “Queer Stories from Truth,” and a 1st edition full leather 10 volume set of “Buffon’s Natural History,” to supernatural and magical titles like Bill’s “The Conquest of Death: An Imminent Step in Evolution,” and Harry Houdini “The Unmasking of Robert Houdin,” this auction is rich in material to delight readers and collectors alike. Oh, murder and mayhem like Jesse’s “Trials of Evans and Christie,” is still to be found as is plenty of ephemera including an 1850 Roll-Up Wall Map of the City of Bridgeport.
