OAKLAND, CALIF. — Clars Auctions is presenting a fine art, furniture, jewelry and Asian art auction on April 18, with a special Warehouse sale on April 19. This two-day event, beginning at 9:30 am on Friday, April 18, will showcase a range of rare and valuable items, with a special emphasis on fine Asian art, making this auction a standout for collectors of Asian works.
The April 18 auction will feature a selection of exceptional fine Asian art, making it the highlight of the event. Collectors will have the rare opportunity to acquire some of the finest works in Chinese and Asian art. Notable pieces include an Eighteenth Century pair of Chinese huanghuali southern official hat chairs ($20/40,000), which are an example of refined craftsmanship in one of China’s most prized hardwoods. Also featured is an imperial Eighteenth Century Qing dynasty yellow satin brocade robe ($30/50,000), a custom-made garment woven in gold and multi-colored threads for Tibetan nobility. This robe, with its intricate design featuring five-clawed dragons and cloud clusters, represents a piece of Chinese textile art. In addition, a Ming dynasty polychrome wood figure of Guanyin will be offered, reflecting the serene beauty of traditional Chinese artistry. Also included is a Chinese yellow-ground famille rose jardiniere and stand ($5/8,000), featuring delicate lotus and Buddhist symbols.
For contemporary Asian art lovers, the auction will present works by renowned Chinese-American artist Chuang Che, including his abstract oil on canvas untitled abstract landscape ($10/15,000), which has been part of a private collection since the 1980s.
In addition to the Asian art offerings, the auction will feature a variety of furniture and decorative arts. Highlights include an Alvar Aalto bentwood tea trolley ($2,5/3,500), a pair of Arne Jacobsen for Fritz Hansen Swan chairs ($1,2/1,800) and an American oak and brass fire alarm gong ($2,5/3,500). Other notable pieces include a collection of Santa Clara blackware and Ursula Morley Price stoneware bowls, offering a blend of modern design and traditional craftsmanship from various cultures.
The jewelry and watches section of Clars’ April 18 auction promises to captivate collectors with its array of curated pieces, from vintage treasures to modern masterpieces. Featured within the auction is a natural alexandrite, diamond and platinum ring ($3/6,000), which is sure to draw attention due to the rarity of alexandrite, a gemstone known for its color-changing properties. Also featured is a green jade, diamond and 18K white gold ring ($4/6,000), a crafted piece that showcases the combination of jade and diamonds set in white gold. Another standout is a diamond and silver-topped 14K gold brooch ($10/20,000), a statement piece that exemplifies both vintage charm and timeless elegance. For those seeking additional pieces to add to their collection, there is a diamond and platinum ring ($1,2/1,800), which offers a more accessible but equally dazzling option.
Additionally, the auction will feature a pair of carved jade earrings ($4/6,000), offering a sophisticated and artistic take on classic jade jewelry.
On Saturday, April 19, Clars will host the Warehouse sale, offering an eclectic selection of art, prints, photographs, modern and antique furniture, silver, porcelain, glass, fashion and decorative items. The Asian art section will include Japanese woodblock prints, ceramics and folding screens, offering an affordable option for collectors looking to add to their collections. The jewelry segment will feature a selection of affordable diamond and silver necklaces, and modern and antique furniture will be available at accessible price points.
Additional items encompass modern and antique furniture and décor, silver, porcelain, glass, fashion, collectible toys, books and Indigenous arts.
