With Spring but hours old, we welcome the return of longer days with a multitude of works with which readers may pass away the hours till their eyes grow as heavy as seems the setting sun.
For lovers of fiction the following 1st editions are available: F. Scott Fitzgerald “Tales of the Jazz Age,” Mario Puzo “The Godfather,” John Steinbeck “The Moon is Down,” “The Wayward Bus,” and “The Short Reign of Pippin IV.” Some readers prefer their fiction to have at one time or another been held by the author. For those individuals we offer signed copies of V. S. Naipaul “A Way in the World,” and “Half a Life,” Ogden Nash “Santa Go Home: A Casebook for Parents,” Alfred Herzog “The Swarm,” and John Updike “Rabbit is Rich.”
Prefer nicely bound editions of an author’s works? Here are just three such sets for consideration: Barrie (1929) “The Works of J.M. Barrie,” 18 volumes in slipcases, John Keats (1938) “The Poetical Works and Other Writings of John Keats,” limited signed edition 8 volumes in slipcases, and Ellen Glascow (1938) “Works of Ellen Glasgow,” a limited signed edition 12 volumes in slipcases.
Poetry aficionados should look at Allen Ginsberg’s “I am a Victim of Telephone,” signed in Howard Moss’ “New York: Poems” and Allen’s signed volume “Spiritual Quests.” Walter De La Mare inscribed a 1st edition copy of “The Veil and Other Poems,” to W.H. Auden who also added his signature to this particular copy. Signed copies of African American poets Countee Cullen’s “Color” and Gwendolyn Brook’s “Annie Allen,” are just some of the works available.
History buffs will appreciate Dickenson’s (1826) “The Shipwreck and Dreadful Sufferings of Robert Barrow with Divers other Persons Amongst the Inhuman Canibals of Florida,” Field’s (1880) “Personal Reminiscences of Early Days in California with Other Sketches,” and Smith et al (1889) “Record of Service of Connecticut Men in the Army and Navy of the United States during the War of the Rebellion.”
Like sports? Then consider these two of several signed lots: Goodspeed (1939) “Angling in America,” a limited signed edition and Robinson (1996) “Jackie Robinson: An Intimate Portrait,” 1st edition and signed.
How about Hollywood? In this vein we have a copy of Keith’s memoir “Three Came Home” which in 1950 was made into a film by 20th Century Fox. This one-of- a-kind copy is signed by the film stars and crew of the movie including Claudette Colbert, Patric Knowles, Sessue Hayakawa and many others. And then there is a photo album, likely prepared by Columbia Pictures, for Actress Grace Moore celebrating her performances with that film company.
Lastly, murder and mayhem continue with several lots of which Stewart’s (1939) “Jack the Ripper: A New Theory,” is but one.
