BEVERLY, MASS. — Kaminski Auctions is set to host a two-day auction on March 15 and 16, beginning at 11 am each day at the firm’s auction gallery. This event features the contents of a prestigious estate in Concord, Mass., along with a collection from the estate of a distinguished diplomat whose family has dedicated generations to public service. The diplomat and his family held various diplomatic posts in countries such as France, Belgium, Uruguay and Lebanon, and served as ambassadors to the United Nations, Italy, Mexico, Egypt, Algeria, Saudi Arabia and Germany. Highlights of the collection include antique gold coins, silver artifacts, a stunning painting and jewelry, such as gold bracelets, pearls, and a men’s watch. Additionally, the auction showcases unique Middle Eastern treasures, featuring kilims, antique Persian rugs and a Wissa Wassef tapestry from Cairo.
Among the premium lots is an 18K white gold and diamond Corum Admiral’s Cup wristwatch, complete with a mother-of-pearl face and inscribed
“Mumm Admiral’s Cup, winner of the Fastnet race.” The bezel measures 1½ inches in diameter, with a 5¼-inch band, and weighs approximately 170.2 grams ($6/9,000). Other notable items include a Nineteenth Century Russian icon of Christ Pantocrator, partially gilt silver with cabochon emeralds and extensive enameling, and a signed Harriet Frishmuth bronze sculpture of a nude, standing 60 inches high. A Nineteenth Century banjo clock by Aaron Willard, Jr, of Boston features banded mahogany and original eglomise tablets, complete with a weight-driven brass movement and original key. Another important clock is a Nineteenth Century gilt bronze and marble mantel clock signed “F. Linke” (Francois Linke) and “Raulin Bigot & Cie, Grand Chantier, Paris” on the face of a Hendon, London collection.
The silver category boasts a Georg Jensen centerpiece bowl in the sterling grape design, marked “No. 197C,” measuring approximately 8 inches high and weighing 44.0 troy ounces, alongside various Jensen Blossom pattern items, including trays and enameled salt and pepper shakers. A Franklin Mint bicentennial sterling bowl lined with 24K gold, featuring sculptured friezes depicting scenes from American history, is also available, along with a Gorham sterling Rondo pattern flatware set comprising 126 pieces and a Continental-style .800 silver flatware service.
The coin section highlights include a 1946 Mexican gold 50 pesos coin, a commemorative medallion marked “Bahrain Saudi Causeway” and a Byzantine Empire solidus coin featuring Heraclius and his son.
Other eclectic ephemera offerings include a signed 1973 Washington Post social register used during Watergate, and a circa 1963/64 signed, by all four Beatles promo photo given to a state police captain in charge of VIP security at Logan Airport.
Fine art highlights feature works by Yeend King, Diane Nicosia, Gaspar Broers and John Koch, showcasing a variety of styles and subjects.
Chinese and Asian highlights include an Eighteenth Century Sino-Tibetan gilt wood statue of Avalokitesvara, a Chinese export silver box and Nineteenth Century Kesi jackets and panels from Dr Stephen Chen’s collection, as well as a pair of Nineteenth Century Qin dynasty cinnabar low tables.
From the estate of Branimir Zivkovic comes a Steinway & Sons Model M grand piano ($3/5,000). The auction will also feature a selection of antique rugs, including a Qazvin kilim, semi-antique Persian Kerman, and a rare Wissa Wassef tapestry from Cairo.
