LITCHFIELD, CONN. — Litchfield Auctions’ April 30 sale will feature property from estates and collections, including that of the late Jeff Trundy of Washington, Conn., and Augusta, Maine. Trundy’s collection of painted furniture, folk art, samplers, redware, stoneware, woodenware, iron, decoys and baskets was assembled over more than three decades, purchasing from Frank Dingley, Don Olson, Olde Hope, Peter Eaton, Gene Pratt, Betty Berdan and Lewis Scranton, as well as from auctions at New England Auctions, New Haven Auctions, Skinner, Cyr, Crocker Farm and James Julia. Highlights include a salmon-painted step back cupboard, yellow cupboard and Maine redware.
Also from Washington is a collection of paintings, prints and silhouettes of George Washington.
A badge of merit, signed by George Washington, and a military note signed by Abraham Lincoln, lead a private Manhattan collection that covers multiple categories. A pair of northern Italian inlaid commodini and Federal inlaid tambour desk are among the furniture highlights, while a painting of two musicians attributed to Guido Reni and three works by Edwin Willard Deming — along with two ship paintings by Antonio Jacobsen — lead the collection’s fine art category. Native American objects include carved totem poles, pipes, masks, bows, tomahawks and clubs.
A note and a photograph, each signed by Franklin Delano Roosevelt and sold separately, also check the “Presidential Memorabilia” box and come from another seller.
The Asian works of art section features a Daisho set of a katana and wakasahi, a still life by Tran Luu Hau, a Nepalese thangka that dates to the Nineteenth or Twentieth Centuries and an Eighteenth or Nineteenth Century Chinese porcelain turquoise blue vase that was acquired from Park Bernet in 1940.
Collectors of modern and contemporary fine and decorative arts include a selection of Corita Kent works, a red travertine dining table by Peter Draenert and two pieces of Outsider Art by Charles Besozzi.
