GOFFSTOWN, N.H. — On Saturday, May 4, Jones & Horan will conduct a webcast live-close auction of 425 lots with no reserves, no buyer’s premium and no sales tax. Featured will be jewelry, wristwatches, pocket watches, coins and more. The firm said it is a horological event enjoyed by bidders from more than 30 different countries.
Jewelry highlights include a Jean Després square coral ring formerly owned by Andy Warhol, as well as a large selection of jewelry from the estate of jewelry collector and television and film comedian Richard “Red” Skelton (1913-1997). Among the items from the collection are two star sapphire rings estimated at 68.0 carats and 62.0 carats set in 18K yellow gold and 18K white gold rings, respectively. Also from the Skelton collection is a man’s dressing set in diamond, ruby and platinum by the jeweler Ruser of Beverly Hills.
Wristwatches are highlighted by an ultra-rare Breguet Type XX Flyback Chronograph with extract. Also highlighted is a rare Audemars Piguet Quantieme perpetual calendar, one of only 244 examples ever produced. Offered in the sale are numerous Rolex sport models, including a Ref 6239 Floating Daytona, a ceramic Daytona in 18K gold with box and papers, as well as a Pepsi Rolex GMT Master ref 1675 with box and papers. The auction features a strong offering of military wristwatches, including a “PCG” Rolex Submariner from the estate of an Air Force lieutenant colonel with papers. Also offered will be a Jardur chronograph with World War II provenance, including a collection of period photographs and flight records from the original owner.
European pocket watches are highlighted by a Klaftenberger minute repeating perpetual calendar with moonphase, a Patek Philippe pocket chronometer with spring detent escapement, a Vacheron & Constantin rose gold skeletonized watch with 18K gold and enamel case and a Cartier with Art Deco styled lapis lazuli, 18K gold and enamel case. Additional highlights include gold-cased repeaters, chronographs, musical watches and numerous top grade examples.
American pocket watches are highlighted by an original gold-cased example by rare independent maker Charles Fasoldt of Albany, N.Y. Also of particular note are several Waltham Watch Co. rarities such as Premier Maximus, American Watch Co. Model 1872, split-seconds chronograph, a Model 1860 in 18K gold and enamel reversible case and unusual dials, including a rare gold foil dial by Josiah Moorhouse, a baseball dial with players at the hour numeral positions and the personal watch of Waltham’s dial department foreman.
Asian pocket watches are also featured with the rare offering of two examples by Osaka Watch Co. of Osaka, Japan.
