Over 1500 Lots! www.sarasotaestateauction.com
SARASOTA, FLA. — Andrew Ford, owner, and auctioneer of Sarasota Estate Auction, has obtained some Chinese, fine art and American pottery for his two-day sale, August 5-6. Headlining this auction of more than 1,500 lots will be a rare Wang Yeting porcelain plaque, a Georg Jensen sterling tea set, along with art from many noteworthy artists. Also included is a lifetime collection of Seventeenth-Nineteenth Century Chinese export snuff bottles and a lifetime collection of early American pottery.
The Wang Yeting porcelain plaque will be the first lot on day two of the two-day auction. This famille rose porcelain painting has an inscription in the top left corner that reads, “Sailing Along a Distant River.” The artist’s signature “Painted by Wang Ping Yeting of M. Zhushan” as well as the name seal “Elder Ping” is in carving script.
Cushman Parker (1881-1940) was an American artist known for painting and illustrations. Depicting a gentleman golfer assessing his next shot, this illustration is a rare and scarce sporting subject, making it collectible to a multitude of buyers. With a Phoenix, Ariz., label verso it was likely done in the 1960s.
Headlining the sterling silver is a Georg Jensen sterling tea set. Weighing in at 40 troy ounces, this blossom tea set is sterling silver with bone handles. The three-piece set with tray is marked Georg Jensen & Wendel on the underside.
Camille Pissarro (1830-1903) was a French artist known for his Impressionist urban and rural scene painting. Circa 1886, a pastel and black chalk on paper is titled “Le Reassemblement.” A sketch of a crowd in the center of town, the back of this framed mixed media on paper has an appraisal from 2018 from Art Avenue Gallery Appraisals.
There are multiple books and ephemera on the first day of the auction. The first one in the group will be a book signed by Victor Hugo to George Sand. Actes et Paroles is a first edition in the original French that was written and signed by Victor Hugo. The book comes in a gold-medal award binding by Petrus Ruban from the World’s Fair conducted at the Brussels International Exposition in 1897. Accompanying the book is an original letter that was written and signed by Petrus Ruban.
Day one will include a lifetime collection of early American pottery, fine art, important books and ephemera. Both days include art from other noteworthy artists, including Roy Lichtenstein, Al Black, Edward Percy Moran, Christian Walter, Cornelius Van Leemputten, Jorge Ivan Arango, Victor Vasarely, Joan Miro, Karel Appel, Ed Gilliam, Wassily Kandinsky, Darrell Crisp, Pablo Picasso, Salvador Dali and many more. There are also multiple Lord Nelson collectibles, estate jewelry, a Hermes dish set, Oriental rugs and a Seventeenth Century Italian carved gilt Madonna.
