CLINTONDALE, N.Y. — Kensington Estate Auctions’ Monday, May 22, online auction will present categories of art that include fine art, ethnographic art and items, urban/graffiti art, sterling silver, gold, studio pottery, photography, sculptures, antiquities, jewelry, antiquarian and post-modern books, coins and more.
The painting category will include works by Native American Indian artists, Lawrence W. Lee (“Coyote Song”), Mark Rohrig (“War Paint’) and Greg Singley (“Warrior”), Erte gouache costume designs, Anna Held Audette’s urban industrial, Chinese scroll paintings with the artist’s seal: Zhu Qizhan, village landscape by Jacques Pergel, collage by Robert Ohnigan, a work by the Mexican painter: Reynaldo Torres, Angelina Nasso (“Paradise Lost”) Charles Wirgman and Judith Lindbloom’s abstract drawing will be offered, and not to be overlooked are the graffiti works of LA II (Angle Ortiz) and NGS Crew.
With a wide selection of art illustrations, the sale offers works of political satire by A.W. Mackenzie, graphic figural drawings by Pele de Lappe, pulp illustration by Robert Doares and others. Limited edition signed portfolios of “Historia” by Nicki de Saint Phalle, Jean Tinguely and Per-Olof Ultvedt, “A Yiddish Lexicon,” the 1924 L’Historie Mereilleuse de Christophe Colomb, signed Max Weber first edition, and Inflammatory Essays by Jenny Holzer are featured. Several limited edition photographic works by George Hurrell and Volkmar Kurt Wentzel are in the offering.
Lithographic works to be sold include “Paunichea, Angora Rabbits” by Theo Van Hoytema, and works by Mordecai Ardon, Lunda Hoyle Gill, Georgi Daskaloff, Miro and Gerald Harvey.
Highlighting the studio art offerings will be a 1890 Max Laeuger and an Otto and Vivika Heino “Bird Head” vase.
Sterling silver offerings include an antique Persian sterling silver set with ewer, goblets and tray, an array of Art Nouveau sterling serving pieces, Danish salt cellars, serving pieces by Tiffany & Co., Georg Jensen, Tuttle and a large footed Durham platter. In addition is sterling silver jewelry by Georg Jensen, Theodor Fahrmer and more. Included are other gold, sterling, Art Nouveau and enamel ornaments.
A unique collection of Middle Eastern / Hellenistic Period antiquities will cross the block. From one collection, a majority of the items come with certificates of authenticity from the Bethlehem Antiquity and Art Gallery, authorized by the Rockefeller Museum of Jerusalem, Israel.
For the book collector there are Maurice Sendak early illustrated books, including signed autographed programs. The auction is replete with a single-owner collection of Andy Warhol first edition retrospective art and photography books and illustrated catalogs, including a Warhol-signed copy of Interview Magazine. From the early Twentieth Century is the collection of Life of Her Most Gracious Majesty: The Queen, The Antiquarian Itinerary and Ancient Reliques, the 1904 L’Etude Academique: Study of Nudes by A. Vignola, to name just a few.
The American saying, “there is gold in them there hills” is true, evidenced by a collection of Nineteenth Century California gold tokens.
Not to be missed is a 1976 theatre poster of the Three Penny Opera, a selection of Al Capp Li’l Abner limited signed silkscreens, 1906: A Yankee Circus On Mars program, Mao Zedong glass mango reliquary, inkwell from Henry Mercer Moravian Tile Works, Nineteenth Century Norblin & Co. candlesticks, Abraham Ortelius map of Asia from the 1600s, etching by Henri Meunier, woodblock by Utagawa Hiroshige and a pair of hand-carved putti cherub wall sconces.
