HAMPTON FALLS, N.H. — Edward B. Beattie Auctions has an online Auction Ninja sale of a collection of original World War I posters from the Winfield Robbins collection of Arlington, Mass., that will start to close on Thursday, February 16, at 7 pm. The collection features examples by some the most prominent artists and illustrators of the period, including Howard Chandler Christy, James Montgomery Flagg, Hiram Harold Green, Clyde Forsythe, Frederick Duncan, Frederic G. Cooper and Sidney Harry Riesenberg.
“We are pleased to be able to sell this collection of original lithographed posters that beautifully illustrate the patriotic spirit of the country during the First World War,” said Edward Beattie, auctioneer.
“This will be the beginning of several important sales from this immense collection of fine prints that have been in storage for about a century,” added Beattie. “We have just begun to examine and inventory the extensive collection.”
Among the highlights is Fight or Buy Bonds, created by Howard Chandler Christy in 1917, the stunning horizontal poster They Kept The Sea Lanes Open by Leon Alaric Shafe and a USA Bond poster from the Boy Scouts of America by J.C. Leyendecker.
There are several colorful Red Cross posters, including Third Red Cross Roll Call by Haskell Coffin that came through Robbins family members that were early Twentieth Century active Red Cross volunteers.
