MARION, MASS. – Marion Antique Auctions will present an antiques and fine art auction on June 26 at its new auction facility at 13 Atlantis Drive.
Guglielmo Marconi named this Atlantis in the early Twentieth Century when he constructed this facility for his power plant for the first wireless transatlantic communication from Marion to Europe. It remains largely intact with some modern improvements to accommodate the auction, storage and construction business.
Frank McNamee, one of the co-owners of Marion Antique Auctions, purchased this building last year from the town of Marion. It has been renovated to accommodate the auction business.
The June 26 auction promises to be one of the most interesting auctions ever for Marion Antique Auctions. It includes six oil paintings by C.H. Gifford, eight L.D. Eldred whaling prints and a scrimshaw collection. There is jewelry, including gold and diamonds, Jensen silver, as well as Nantucket baskets and a decoy collection.
The furniture offerings include a selection of midcentury items to include Danish and American; a highlight is a Dunbar sideboard with carved Japanese-style plaque with its original receipt. There is a contingent of American and European paintings led by a beach scene by Emile Gruppe. There are two Duncan McFarlane ship portraits. Also offered will be a Jelliff parlor set and a rosewood etagere. An early 1900s Kashan garden carpet, signed and dated, leads an Oriental rug offering.
There is a plethora of sterling and coin silver to include two Francis I flatware sets, as well as three original Audubon prints and a Piranesi and Motherwell. This well-rounded sale has something for everyone, and all 520 lots are fresh to the market and being sold without a reserve.
The auction starts at 10 am. Viewing is on Thursday and Friday, June 24 and 25, 11 am to 6 pm, and Saturday, June 26, 8 to 9:30 am. Absentee bids and phone bids are accepted.
