GLEN COVE, N.Y. — Roland Auctions NY will present a collection of rarely seen Art Deco cufflinks as part of its multi-estates auction on Saturday, April 5, at 10 am, featuring items from multiple noteworthy estates. The cufflink collection will join a selection of fine and contemporary art, antique furniture pieces, silver, decorative arts, Asian arts, textiles and lighting.

There are more than 150 pair of Art Deco and early Midcentury cufflinks on offer, all from the personal collection of fine art, antiques and collectibles consultant and prominent New York Wall Street attorney Burton Fendelman. Burt and Helaine, his wife of 60 years, spent a lifetime collecting art and antiques while traveling the world. Burt, a co-founder of the Antiques Dealers Association, died in February 2024.

His passion for Art Deco cufflinks, mostly silver and enamel collected over a period of 25-30 years, was an extension of another passion; always being nattily dressed for any occasion, which is obvious in this stylishly curated collection.

Highlights from Fendelman’s cufflink collection include a set of Tiffany & Co., sterling guilloche enamel cufflinks from the early to mid Twentieth Century, each having an intricate lattice work design in red and royal blue guilloche enamel with twisted rope and sunburst details. They are marked “Tiffany & Co.,” and “925” to the backs and weigh 6.3 pennyweights in total. They are contained within a small antique presentation box from Sooky Goodfriend ($100/200).

Also included is a collection of five pairs of antique French early Twentieth Century red guilloche enamel cufflinks ($100/200), two pairs of antique red and black enamel cufflinks ($100/200) and three pair of antique Krementz sterling enamel cufflinks, all of oval form with deep red and pale yellow guilloche enamel designs and borders ($100/200).

In the contemporary art arena, Roland is offering Mylo Quam’s (American, 1941-1996) “Samurai,” a mixed media trompe l’oeil in paper and oil paint on board depicting a figural study of semi-nude figures in suspension toying with samurai garb, signed lower left and titled on back, 60½ by 48½ inches ($2,5/3,500); Mylo Quam’s (American, 1941-1996) “Genghis,” a mixed media work in paper and foil on oil on board, depicting Genghis Khan with a large spear and wearing familiar garb, signed lower left and titled on back, 56 by 40 inches ($2/3,000); and Eduardo Torassa’s (Argentinian, b 1955) “El Laberinto de las Leyas…,” a surrealist oil painting of Gothic-style figures with a child in a shell and arrows pointing in all directions ($1/1,500). Also offered is Thomas Francois Cartier’s (French, 1879-1943) bronze figure of a snarling panther, signed on base ($800-$1,200).

This sale also features a collection of rare guitars and guitar accessories from a prominent New York collector, which include guitars by Gibson, Gretsch, Fender, Hamer and PRS, with original hard shell cases and all documentation and certificates. These include a Gibson 1956 gold top Les Paul reissue guitar with soap bar pickups. It comes with custom hardshell Gibson case and all original hardware ($2,750-$3,250) and a 2000 Gibson Les Paul custom guitar. This Les Paul has an ebony colorway paired with all gold hardware. Its original case contains keys, a truss rod tool and paperwork ($2,5/3,000).

A selection of silver will also have a good showing at Roland, including a large Tiffany & Co., sterling silver tray of classical design, presented to “Charles Dana Jr from Just One Break,” 77.8 troy ounces, 14½ by 18 inches ($2/3,000); a five-piece Gorham early Twentieth Century sterling silver tea set, comprising a teapot, coffee pot, covered sugar, creamer and finger bowl, monogrammed, 70 troy ounces ($1,5/2,000); and an English silver large centerpiece in shell form, openwork design, with mermaid bust at top of handles and tails with shell and floral designs, on three dolphin feet, with gadrooned trim, 46.5 troy ounces ($1,2/1,500).

Notable antique furniture pieces include a Louis XVI giltwood and Aubusson settee, Nineteenth Century, with custom cut and fitted panel Aubusson tapestry and heavily gilded frame ($1,2/1,800) and a Victorian burl walnut credenza with a marble top and inset mirror, Nineteenth Century, with three doors and ornate mirrored backsplash ($500/800).
