Robert L. Savary’s 40+ year collection of antique radios will be auctioned on Saturday.
This is his complete collection – no items have been sold separately. Bob was knowledgeable
about radio electronics but was particularly good at restoring the wooden cabinets, learning how to apply the original lacquer finish – priding himself on authentically restoring the cabinets to look like the original. He was a guest lecturer on restoration at Manchester Community College. He was particularly interested in late 20s and early 30s cathedral (“beehive”) and tombstone models. He purchased radios from all sorts of places……used furniture stores, antique shops, Ebay, and tag sales as well as the Brimfield antiques show and the New England Antique Radio Club (NEARC) swap meets in Nashua, NH – of which he was a proud member.
