GUILFORD, CONN — Lotus International Auctions will be having an online-only special summer fine art auction August 28 at noon. All bidding will be done through LiveAuctioneers. Bidding has already started.
The auction has 409 artworks: oil paintings, watercolors, etchings, lithographs, Charles and Ray Eames lounge chair and ottoman, Walter Darwin Teague Spartan 558 blue glass radio, Inuit sculptures, antique toys, folk art and more. George Morrison, an Ojibwe artist, had his Modernist oil painting, “Subjugation,” exhibited in 1946 at the Whitney Museum of Modern art, 1946 at the Rockport Art Association’s summer show, 1947 at the Corcoran Gallery of Art, Washington DC, and in the 1948 Grand Central Moderns first solo show. Morrison’s commemorative forever stamps were issued in April 2022.
This auction has works by abstract painters, Christaan Appel and Gottfried Honegger. Their strikingly different artworks allow us to view their unique styles. Chauncey Foster Ryder, who represents the Old Lyme School, shows off a summer white cloudy day landscape oil painting. “Bermuda” by Alfred Birdsey, is painted in both watercolors and oil paintings. Lee Court has a large selection of oil on canvas Vermont scenes. Robert C. Ludwig, abstract painter, has both graphic and bold artworks that will be eye-catching on any wall. George Bellows’ famous “Counted Out” second stone lithograph, 1921, has a ringside feel. Alfred Hutty’s “On the way Home” is a Southern scene with cart, couple and Spanish moss in the surrounding trees. “White Whales /Polar Bears” by Sheouak Petaulassie, was done by a seal skin stencil in 1961. Jean Dubuffet’s “Le Braconnier,” dated 1953, is a great example of his lithographs. Jean Miro, Picasso and Chagall are just a few selections from which to choose in this auction.
The Charles and Ray Eames lounge chair and ottoman are an iconic modern style. Walter Darwin Teague, Spartaan 558 Blue glass is a great example of Deco Streamline style. The radio was known as “the sled.”
