An early Nineteenth Century inkwell soared at a January 15 auction conducted by Castner’s Auction and Appraisal Service. The inkwell with blue decoration and two incised flowers was a standout at $12,075.
Art offerings also performed well, including an oil on board by Jack B. Yeats, measuring 15 by 10, that went to $6,325, followed by an oil on canvas titled “Red School House, Milton, NH” by F.H. Shepleigh for $4,315 and a Western-themed oil on canvas by LeRoy Greene, at $1,610 and an oil on board, “Arbor Day,” by Doris Lee, 16 by 12 inches, at $1,380.
The furniture category included a red sponge painted lift top blanket chest that fetched $2,070, a L&JG Stickley even arm settle at $3,275 and a Sheraton sugar chest for $1,035.
