A fine Chumash basket left the auction room spellbound when it sold for $132,250 at CRN Auctions’ May 7 sale. Part of an impressive assortment of merchandise offered at Carl Nordblom’s Annual Spring Auction, the tightly coiled basket was made of juncus, sumac and grass and measured 91/2 by 12 inches. Action came from the telephones and several in the room with it finally selling to the trade in the gallery. Another top lot was a carved and painted eagle attributed to Maine carver John Bellamy that sold for $34,500. A complete report of the sale will appear in a future issue. -FMM
