Quester Gallery will have its annual exhibition of “Contemporary Marine Art” May 8-June 5, at 279 Greenwich Avenue.
The gallery will present the works of numerous leading figures in Twentieth Century maritime fine art, including painters: David Bareford, John Stobart, Dusan Kadlec, William Bishop, Donald Curley, Roy Cross, Henry Scott and others.
Highlighting the exhibition will be several colorful and exciting paintings of America’s Cup and One Design yachts, including IOD’s, NY 40s, and Etchell classes, by David Bareford and William Bishop. These oil paintings explode with action, rich color and warm light.
Quester Gallery will offer five original paintings by John Stobart in this show. These included a marvelous, luminous view of Nantucket Harbor, and a Grand Banks Schooner race. Two very fine pieces by Dusan Kadlec offer historic harbor views: one of Battery Park, N.Y., filled with spectators and park strollers adorned with colorful parasols and hats; the other of Georgetown from Mason’s Island in 1865. A rare collection of historic aviation painting by Thomas Hoyne, accompanied by two period scale models of Curtis Hawk biplanes will be included.
Quester Gallery also offers painting commissions of private and corporate properties, yachting subjects, rowing events and specific locales. The gallery offers, and will include in this show, exceptional scale models of yachts, ships and rowing shells. Commissions of full models, as well as half hull models, are offered by Quester Gallery.
This spring show includes a wonderful assortment of double and single sailor’s valentines by the award winning shell artist Sandi Blanda. Betsey Rice has numerous hand sculpted, clay creations of marine life such as a two-foot piece depicting a blue crab, mussel and razor clam shells, starfish, and a three-foot loggerhead turtle. Hand sand cast, colored glass vessels with fossilized shells by Amanda Brisbane are also available.
The exhibition will be open 10 am to 6 pm Monday through Saturday. For information, 203-629-8022, or www.questergallery.com.
