NEW YORK CITY – Frank Bernarducci and Louis K. Meisel are presenting the first New York solo exhibition of still lifes by Brooklyn artist Matthew Pierog at their gallery, 37 West 57th Street.
Born in Springfield, Mass. in 1975, Pierog attended the University of Hartford School of Art in West Hartford, Conn. He received his BFA in 1997.
Pierog positions sharply lit isolated fruits and objects against dark, obscure grounds, building up rich highlights through layered glazes. In unabashed emulation of Baroque painting traditions, each strawberry seed, each olive pit, pear stem or grain of wood is meticulously delineated and rendered tactile under Pierog’s unwavering hand.
The exhibition remains on view through Saturday, February 16. For information, 212-593-3757.
