DEERFIELD, MASS. — “We are going back to Deerfield and are delighted with the arrangement to have another show at Deerfield Academy,” Skip Chalfant, president of the Antiques Dealers’ Association of America said this week. After negotiations were completed, ADA sent out an email on May 8 to its membership announcing the show and “within 24 hours we were hearing back from some of them expressing their interest in doing the show,” Skip said. There will be 46 dealers in the show and it is over half full at this time.
The ADA show has been around for a long time, and not always with a great deal of success. It started in Springfield, Mass., a good number of years ago, and also made several appearances at the Westchester County Center in White Plains, N.Y. In all case a fine show was presented, but the gate did not warrant the effort.
“We are very pleased to be going back to Deerfield where we had our best shows,” Karen DiSaia, show committee chairman said. “Negotiations with Deerfield Academy ran very smoothly and they are looking forward to our return,” she said. She mentioned that both Philip Zea, director of Historic Deerfield, and Dr Eric Widmer, headmaster of the academy, are working with the ADA to make this an outstanding event. Working with Karen on the show committee will be John Keith Russell, Grace Snyder, Chris Rebollo and Elle Shushan.
Arthur Liverant, a member of the Board of Directors of ADA, said, “Our show in 1998 in Deerfield had a real magic, it was well received and well attended.” He pointed out this October 11-12 show is geared to a wonderful time of the year, a season when the leaves are in their full glory in New England. “We are hoping to work with Historic Deerfield and have some interesting programs at the same time to attract more visitors,” he said.
Rain fell on both the 1998 and 1999 dates, making parking and walking a bit more difficult. “We have scheduled this date for no rain,” Liverant said with a great deal of confidence.
