BEDFORD, N.Y. — Nearly 575 lots, sourced from local estates and collections, were the bill of fare in Butterscotch Auction’s December 7 Reflections of the Season sale. Earning top-lot status was an 11⅛-inch-tall Chinese doucai Eight Buddhist Emblems censer that had period Qianlong reign marks (1736-1795) and an old label inscribed “Nath’l L. Frear III.” Estimated at $15/25,000, the catalog noted provenance to a New York City family and comparisons to a similar example offered at Christie’s, Hong Kong, in November 2023. A local trade buyer prevailed over competitors to win it for $41,820, including buyer’s premium. A future issue will feature more highlights from this sale.
