KIRKWOOD, N.Y. — McMurray Antiques & Auctions closed out the month of June with its Auction 84, a 150-lot sale which took place on the 28th of the month. Featuring patent medicines, pills, tins, apothecary/drugstore and advertising items, the sale was led by an Eastman’s Capsule Filler in its original box, which flew past its $1/1,500 estimate to achieve the sale-high price of $2,352, including buyer’s premium. The lot came with a wooden storage box with six compartments, where the device and five separate metal insert rings were stored; the differing ring sizes were for filling different sized capsules. This machine was featured in Charles “Dick” Richardson’s The Pill Rollers. Additional highlights from this sale will be featured in an upcoming issue.
