NEW YORK CITY — English and Continental furniture, decorative arts and Old Master paintings was the bill of fare from May 20-21, with nearly 625 lots across all categories crossing Doyle’s block on Manhattan’s Upper East Side. The highest price of the two-day event was an Eighteenth Century French School landscape of ships loading cargo in a Mediterranean that traded at $38,400, nearly eight times its high estimate. It measured 28 by 50¼ inches and came to Doyle from the estate or collection of a distinguished European collector. Prices quoted include the buyer’s premium; an upcoming issue will feature a more extensive review of highlights from both days.
