DOWNINGTOWN, PENN. — Flying highest of the exactly 600 lots Pook & Pook offered in its May 1-2 Americana auction was a hand-sewn Cowpens/Third Maryland-pattern linen flag with 13 stamped stars that brought $42,500, including the buyer’s premium, from a trade buyer. The 21-by-31-inch flag had history of ownership in the Hanover, Penn., estate of Daniel I. Keys and dated to the Nineteenth Century. It was the top lot in a sale that was 98 percent sold by lot and realized $1,232,500 against a pre-sale estimate of approximately $590/925,000. An upcoming issue will have a more extensive sale review.
