LOS ANGELES — Despite condition issues that included mounts with extensive losses and cracks to the surviving ones, an overall rubbed condition and areas of discoloration, a Chinese hardstone mounted bronze vase that had been estimated at just $600/800, was the high seller at Andrew Jones Auctions and realized $42,500. Consigned from the local Southern California estate of Janice Hawtof, the vase was part of a large concentration of Chinese works of art of all types — porcelain, furniture, bronzes, paintings and books — from numerous sellers that brought out a huge number of collectors for parts I & II of DTLA Collections & Estates January 26 and 28. Aileen Ward, senior vice president, said that the vase “still maintained enough aesthetic and historic appeal to reach its significant final sale price.” It sold to a Chinese buyer.
