Leading Christie’s sale of American furniture, folk art and silver during Americana Week in New York City is a joined oak and pine polychrome Hadley chest with drawers, Hadley, Mass., circa 1715. Previously unrecorded, this early painted and polychrome decorated example is just the fourth chest of its type to emerge. Watch as the firm’s deputy chairman John Hays describes the chest’s unique decorative scheme that shows the presence of new ideas during the period. Courtesy of Christie’s.
