The auction features a broad selection of fine American and European furniture, paintings and decorative art. Highlights include a fine group of period American furniture from The Harry Z. Isaacs Collection from the Historic Long Branch estate in Virginia. The majority of the furniture is of the highest quality and was procured by Mr. Isaacs from the finest dealers of his day including Israel Sack and Joe Kindig.
Other auction highlights include an important work by Pascal Adolphe Jean Dagnan Bouveret, a marine work by Albert Pinkham Ryder, and a beach scene by Maurice Prendergast. An impressive and fresh-to-market group of 19th Century American paintings are also showcased within the 300 being offered.
The auction includes an exceptional collection of maritime art and antiques. An exceedingly rare pair of scrimshawed whale’s teeth illustrating a vessel under attack by pirates leads a strong group of scrimshaw, as well as a pair attributed to the Bank Note Engraver.
Other marine arts include a Napoleonic POW bone model and other pieces, jagging wheels, and more. Other paintings include a yachting scene by Joseph B. Smith and works from the China Trade. A fine collection of Chinese export porcelain, cased & half models, and marine books, including Ledyard’s A Journal of Captain Cook’s Last Voyage…, logbook of the Flying Cloud, and more. Other books include The Writings of Mark Twain (37 vols.), history, exploration, Cape Cod & other categories.
Seventy Oriental rugs include room & scatter sizes. Silver highlights include a sevenpiece Watson tea & coffee set, flatware sets by Tiffany, Towle, Reed & Barton & others as well as Georg Jensen bells, Continental silver boxes, sets of oyster forks & more. Important decoys include A.E. Crowell life-size kingfisher, blue jay, robin, towhee & miniatures, as well as carvings by others.
