Our November auction will present a bountiful array of rare, fresh-to-the market items harvested from homes throughout Maine and New England.
On Saturday, we will offer an exhilarating selection of fine art & antiques, including artwork by Albert Bierstadt, Frederic Remington, Edgar Alwin Payne, Eastman Johnson, William Sidney Mount, Harrison Bird Brown, Louis Comfort Tiffany, and Jay Hall Connaway. An outstanding selection of antiquities will be presented, such as a 13th c. Madonna & Child bas relief, an Egyptian bronze hand mirror, plus ancient pottery and carvings. The Oriental antiques selection will include jade carvings, bronzes, and early porcelain. Eight important pictorial and Waldoboro hooked rugs from the Pribyl Collection will be featured. The American furniture group will include an 18th c. Boston Chippendale mahogany secretary/desk and a New York Federal chest from the shop of Duncan Phyfe. A Regency Period English wine cabinet and 19th c. French lingerie cabinet will be highlights of the European furniture. The folk art collection will offer Grenfell pieces, tramp art, and decoys; and there will be a selection of Native American basketry, jewelry, and pottery. Early silver, nautical items, musical instruments, lighting, carpets and period time pieces will round out this day.
Sunday's stimulating array of fine and decorative arts will feature masterworks by 20th c. artists, such as Haddon Sundblom, Marguerite Zorach, William Zorach, Roy Lichtenstein, Al Hirschfeld, Henri Matisse, Thomas Hart Benton, Salvador Dali, Rene Magritte, and Rockwell Kent. Another highlight will be a rare art folio, 'The American Dream', by Robert Indiana. Over 40 lots of art pottery by Brother Thomas Bezanson will be featured. The ceramics category will also offer fine examples of majolica, blue and white Staffordshire, Moorcroft, Meissen, and Rookwood. Sunday's furniture will include an ante-bellum Southern lady's drop front desk by Prudent Mallard of New Orleans, plus Victorian, Arts & Crafts, Art
Nouveau and Adirondack pieces. Highlights of the large selection of estate jewelry
are an Edwardian period diamond bracelet, an 18K gold Deco design Audemars
Piguet wristwatch, and 18K gold pocket watch by Jules Jurgensen.
Ephemera offerings will include an account of the 1864 Civil War attack on Washington, Andrew Wyeth cards, and John D. Rockefeller, Jr. letters. The firearms collection will offer a Revolutionary War powderhorn, Confederate  presentation sword, and 1863 Civil War Norfolk musket. Completing the Sunday sale will be music boxes, fine clocks, silver, toys, early typewriters and antique luggage.
