Beatle's
Album Sells for $35,165 at Lelands.com
SEAFORD, N.Y. - The first day of Lelands.com's December auction,
which concluded December 7, featured a 36-year-old Beatles LP of
Help!, autographed by all four members (John Lennon twice,
front and back), going for $35,165 (including the 15 percent
buyer's premium).
"The high price for the Help! album is due to [its]
rarity," explained Josh Evans, founder and chairman of Lelands.
"It was unusual to encounter all four of the 'lads' at once, and
to have an album on hand when encountering them. It took a lot of
work to get that accomplished."
The second highest lot was Charlie Watts' own white matte gold
record for the Rolling Stones' Satisfaction, which went
for $17,467.
Prices for the Bruce Springsteen collection, items from his early
days in Asbury Park, included $15,851 for his earliest acetate
recording; $9,259 for a guitar used by Bruce and his group, the
Castiles; $7,736 for his earliest concert poster; and $5,812 for
a handwritten letter to his landlady as he sat on the brink of
stardom.
Prices paid for other highlights included $9,361 for the coat
Ringo Starr wore on the Abbey Road cover; $7,032 for a
signed first edition of The Old Man and the Sea by Ernest
Hemingway; $7,032 for a signed Giant Steps album
cover from John Coltrane; and $6,778 for an unused ticket from
the Beatles concert at the Red Rock Amphitheater outside of
Denver in 1964 (original price, $6.60).
